I understand why the Obama campaign doesn't like it... because Americans are dumb.
To quote the wikipedia:
"A very common, almost defining feature of satire is its strong vein of irony or sarcasm, but parody, burlesque, exaggeration, juxtaposition, comparison, analogy, and double entendre are all frequently used in satirical speech and writing. The essential point, however, is that "in satire, irony is militant"[2]. This "militant irony" (or sarcasm) often professes to approve the very things the satirist actually wishes to attack."
Or maybe the smugly sophisticated New Yorker folks are the "dumb" ones.
I heard their editor yesterday defending the cover. He just didn't get it.
arkansan: what don't they get? that this goes too far for satire? that this will be damaging to obama because americans actually think obama is a terrorist or a muslim or something?
