I love the irony of the link Bdog is giving me with this: "Spoon with Built-In Scales, Perfect for Dieters and Dealers." More crack for the hyped up masses...

I prefer to think about the tulip bubble. Some words about this phenomenon were on the blackboard of the university classroom I was in last night, along with some words about the tech and housing bubbles. Tulipmania appeals to me much more. It seems less threatening to my bank account.

Did I hear that Turkey is now trying to corner the market on tulip bulbs?

Googled: In fact, tulip prices and the practice of tulip speculation became so excessive and frenzied that in 1637 the States of Holland passed a statute curbing such extremes.

The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World by Michael Pollan has a lovely chapter about tulips and the Dutch tulip craze.

why did "The Botany of Desire" remind me of the movie "Adaptation?"
