Todd: I lived in the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 5 years, and I never heard of anyone using human remains as crab bait. "In the South" -- about as funny as the VP saying his cousins married and they weren't even from West Virginia!

6th foot found on B.C. south coast
Having lived as a "stranger in a strange land" in the South, mostly Mississippi, for nearly 40 years, I'd say that the early 1980's were about when things started to change with the old timers like Byrd. For Byrd I'm certain that the Klan is a thing of the past. He says that's the case, and I believe him.

Obama gave an amazing pro-Isreal speech at the AIPAC meeting in Washington today. Her speech following didn't compare.

Lot of negative obama comments after this light, amusing article. Wonder which campaign is responsible. Didn't used to see this many negative political jabs on such an article.

How to snack like Barack Obama.
Yes, it is worth reading. I made a modest contribution on-line to the obama campaign a few months ago and have been amazed at the network I've become involved with.

I hope this nameless adjunct earns enough money from the article so that he doesn't have to moonlight another semester. He needs to keep his day job, whatever that it.

Thanks, notgneiss. I've never seen Morris dancing, and it sounds lovely. I have been to the Arboretum maybe 7 or 8 years ago and have longed to go back. It is truly beautiful, and I agree worthy of the comparison to the Elgin Marbles.

Meanwhile, in his spare time...
...Obama seems to have brought peace to the Niger Delta. No joke.
Reuters:
Rebels who have stepped up attacks on Nigeria's oil industry in the last month said on Sunday they were considering a ceasefire appeal by U.S. presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has launched five attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta since it resumed a campaign of violence in April, forcing Royal Dutch Shell to shut more than 164,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd).
"The MEND command is seriously considering a temporary ceasefire appeal by Senator Barack Obama. Obama is someone we respect and hold in high esteem," the militant group said in an e-mailed statement.

The original story was April 25, and I haven't heard any follow up on cable news, which I have on as background noise nearly all day. This would out-do even Rev. Wright if true.

The green beans just picked from my garden taste better (I'd guess) than air-shipped, Kenyan green beans. I also get exercise I need and use free fertilizer from horses at the local track. An indulgance, I admit, since I still buy most of what I eat at the grocery in winter, farmers' market in summer, and drive to get it. Good article.

I found myself liking Obama a lot after I read his first book. His second book is even more convincing. Read his 60+ page position paper. Look at just one issue -- health care. He promises to arm-twist to lower costs, unlike HRC who wants the tax payers to pay for everyone. (No, wait. She avoids saying that insurance premiums will be mandated to achieve "universal coverage." ) But don't get me started.
